Server Room & Comms Cabinet Setup
Server room clean-up, on site
A messy server room nobody wants to touch.
A messy server room nobody wants to touch.
A tangled server room usually got that way one urgent change at a time. Before any cable moves, we photograph the room, record every switch port, patch panel position and device, and identify which links are critical - internet, phones, servers, Wi-Fi controllers. Unknown cables are traced rather than guessed, and dead equipment still plugged in is flagged for you to confirm before removal.
What the technician does
- Document what's there
- Re-patch and re-route cabling in stages
- Label everything and hand over a diagram
Shutdown work can be done after hours.
About server room clean-up
The re-patch is done in sections so only a small part of the network is down at any time. Long patch leads are swapped for correctly sized ones, colour-coded by purpose where helpful, and routed through horizontal managers instead of across the front of the rack. Power cables are separated from data where possible. You receive updated port records, a rack photo set and a list of any equipment that should be retired.
What usually causes it
- Years of changes with no documentation
- Patch leads so long they hang in loops
- Old equipment left powered on and nobody sure why
- Fear of breaking something by touching the rack
- An upcoming audit, insurance review or office move
Before we arrive
- Access to the room or cabinet
- A list of the equipment in it, if you have one
- Admin logins for switches and firewalls
- A preferred window for any shutdown work
What a visit looks like
When you book server room clean-up, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Each server room clean-up job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
Server room clean-up: questions
Can you clean up without shutting the whole office down?
Yes. Most re-patching is done port by port or switch by switch, so each change causes a short blip for a few devices. Anything that needs a full shutdown is scheduled outside business hours.
What happens to the old equipment we remove?
We list it for you, and you choose whether to keep, sell or dispose of it. Any device that held data can be wiped or have its drives destroyed before it leaves the building.
Do you do server room clean-up on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does server room clean-up cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
