Business firewall and network security

Business firewalls, VLANs and VPNs configured and documented onsite.

The firewall decides what gets in and out of your network, yet in many offices it is the internet provider's default router with an old port forward nobody remembers. We install and configure business firewalls such as Fortinet FortiGate, Ubiquiti UniFi gateways and DrayTek Vigor routers, split the network into sensible VLANs, set up VPNs for remote staff and write down every rule we leave in place.

  • Existing configuration backed up before any change
  • Every rule and VLAN recorded in a handover sheet
  • Admin passwords changed from defaults and handed to you

Signs you need firewall & network security

  • The only thing between the office and the internet is the router your provider posted out
  • Nobody knows what port forwards or remote access rules are open
  • Security cameras, guest devices and staff PCs all sit on the same network
  • Staff connect to the office from home with remote desktop over the open internet
  • The firewall has not had a firmware update since it was installed

How we do it

We start by reading what is already there. That means exporting the current router or firewall configuration, listing every port forward, VPN and admin account, and checking firmware against the vendor's support status. Old rules that point at machines long since removed are common, and each one is a door left open. We agree with you which services genuinely need to be reachable from outside before anything is changed.

The new configuration is built and checked before the cutover. Staff, guest, camera and server traffic are separated into VLANs with rules between them, remote staff connect through an SSL or IPsec VPN with multi-factor sign-in, and admin access is limited to the inside network. After the swap we test email, cloud apps, the VPN and any hosted services, then hand over a sheet listing every rule and why it exists.

Firewall & Network Security for businesses

For an office, clinic or warehouse, the firewall is the one device every byte of internet traffic passes through. Getting it right reduces the damage a compromised laptop or a weak camera recorder can do, gives remote staff a safe way in, and leaves a record so the next person who changes a rule knows what they are touching. Insurers and clients increasingly ask about these controls too.

Before we arrive

To make the visit quick, it helps to have these ready:

  • Admin logins for the current router or firewall, if you have them
  • Your internet provider's account details and connection type
  • A list of anything that must be reachable from outside, such as a camera recorder or accounting server
  • Names of staff who work remotely and the devices they use

What a visit looks like

When you book firewall & network security, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each firewall & network security job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

Firewall & Network Security: common questions

Is the router from my internet provider good enough?

For a home, often yes. For a business it usually lacks VLANs, proper VPN support, logging and firmware it can control. A dedicated firewall sits behind or replaces it and gives you control over what crosses the edge.

Which firewall brands do you work with?

We commonly install Fortinet FortiGate, Ubiquiti UniFi and DrayTek Vigor, and we can work on most other business firewalls already in place. We suggest a model based on your internet speed, staff numbers and what needs remote access.

Will installing a firewall disrupt the office?

The physical swap is short, but it does interrupt the internet. We prepare the configuration first, then cut over at a quiet time you choose and test email, browsing, VPNs and anything with a port forward before we leave.
