Wi-Fi & Network Setup
VLAN setup, on site
Cameras, guests, phones and staff PCs all share one network.
Cameras, guests, phones and staff PCs all share one network. It's a job we do on site across Auckland and Hamilton, as part of our Wi-Fi & network setup work.
What the technician does
- Plan separate networks for each kind of device
- Configure switches, firewall and Wi-Fi
- Test that each network sees only what it should
Separating cameras and guests from staff PCs is a big security win.
When to book this
People usually book VLAN setup when one of these sounds familiar:
- Video calls freeze or drop in certain rooms
- Devices keep disconnecting and reconnecting
- Wi-Fi is fine near the router and useless elsewhere
- Guests and staff share the same network as your computers and cameras
How we approach it
Good Wi-Fi starts with measuring. We test signal strength and interference room by room, note what is in the way - concrete, brick, foil insulation, metal racking - and look at how the router and any extenders are set up. Only then do we recommend changes, which might be moving the router, adding mesh points, installing ceiling access points or running a cable to where it is needed.
For businesses we separate networks properly: staff, guests, cameras and devices each on their own network, so a visitor's laptop never sits next to your accounts PC. We document the settings, label the equipment and test coverage again after the work, so you can see the difference.
Before we arrive
- A floor plan or rough sketch of the building, if you have one
- Your internet provider's account details
- Router and switch admin logins if you know them
- A list of the rooms or areas where Wi-Fi is worst
For businesses
Business networks need more than a strong signal. We set up separate networks for staff, guests and devices, configure switches and firewalls properly, and plan access point positions so coverage is even across offices, shop floors and warehouses.
At home
At home, most Wi-Fi problems come down to router placement and building materials. Mesh Wi-Fi, a well-placed access point or a single cable to the far end of the house usually fixes dead zones for good.
What a visit looks like
When you book VLAN setup, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Every VLAN setup job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
