IT equipment disposal and secure data wiping

Old computers wiped or drives removed, then recycled.

A cupboard of old laptops, desktops and servers is a data risk sitting on a shelf. Every drive inside may still hold client files, saved passwords and email. We collect the list of equipment, wipe each drive with overwrite software or remove and physically destroy it, note each serial number against what was done, and arrange recycling of the hardware. You keep a record of every device that left the building.

  • Serial numbers recorded for each device
  • Wipe or drive removal noted per device
  • Recycling of the hardware arranged

Signs you need IT equipment disposal & data wiping

  • A storeroom is filling with laptops and desktops nobody uses
  • Old servers or NAS units were switched off but never cleared
  • Staff have left and their computers are being passed on
  • You are moving offices and do not want to take dead equipment with you
  • Nobody can say for sure what data is still on the old drives

How we do it

Disposal starts with a list. We go through the equipment with you, record make, model and serial number for each device, and note whether it holds a drive. Laptops and desktops that are being reused or donated are wiped with software that overwrites the whole drive, then given a clean operating system. Drives that fail to wipe, or that come from machines going for recycling, are removed and physically destroyed.

Printers, copiers, routers and firewalls are often forgotten. Copiers keep scanned documents on internal storage and routers hold network passwords and VPN settings, so we reset them to factory settings before they leave. Once everything is cleared we arrange recycling of the hardware and hand you the completed list, showing what happened to each device and its storage. Nothing leaves your premises until it has been checked against that list.

Specific IT equipment disposal & data wiping jobs

IT Equipment Disposal & Data Wiping for businesses

For businesses, a disposal job is a chance to close off a risk most offices forget about. Old drives often hold payroll files, client records and saved logins. Clearing them properly, keeping a list of what was wiped or destroyed, and recycling the hardware rather than leaving it in a cupboard tidies up both the storeroom and your data obligations under the Privacy Act.

Before we arrive

To make the visit quick, it helps to have these ready:

  • A rough count of the equipment going
  • Any device passwords or BIOS locks you know of
  • A decision on which machines will be reused or donated
  • Somewhere to work near the equipment

What a visit looks like

When you book IT equipment disposal & data wiping, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each IT equipment disposal & data wiping job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

IT Equipment Disposal & Data Wiping: common questions

Is deleting files or reformatting enough?

No. Deleting files and quick formats leave the data recoverable with free tools. A proper wipe overwrites the whole drive, and drives that will not wipe are removed and physically destroyed.

Can we keep or reuse the machines?

Yes. If a laptop is going to a staff member, a school or a charity, we wipe it and reinstall a clean operating system so it is ready to use without any of your data on it.

What do we get at the end?

A list of every device by make, model and serial number, with whether its drive was wiped or removed and destroyed. Keep it with your records for audits or insurance questions.
