Business backup and disaster recovery

Backups that follow the 3-2-1 rule and are restore-tested.

A backup only counts if you can restore from it. We set up backups for servers, NAS units, PCs and Microsoft 365 following the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of your data, on two different types of storage, with one copy offsite. Then we prove it works with a real test restore and write down the steps to recover after a failed server, theft, fire or ransomware attack.

  • A list of what is backed up and where each copy lives
  • At least one test restore before we finish
  • Backup alerts sent to someone who will read them

Signs you need backup setup & disaster recovery

  • Nobody can say when the last backup was checked
  • The only backup is a USB drive plugged into the server
  • You assume Microsoft 365 or the cloud is backing everything up
  • Backup failure emails go to someone who no longer works there
  • There is no written plan for a dead server, theft or ransomware

How we do it

We map what data the business actually depends on: file shares, accounting and practice databases, line-of-business servers, mailboxes, OneDrive and SharePoint. For each one we note how much data you could afford to lose and how long you could be without it. That shapes the design, which follows the 3-2-1 rule - three copies, on two kinds of storage, with one kept offsite or in the cloud and protected from deletion.

Once backups are running we prove them. We restore real files, and for servers a whole system or virtual machine, to a separate location and check that the data opens and the application starts. Alerts are pointed at someone who will act on them. You receive a short recovery runbook covering where each copy lives, how to restore it and who to call, written so it is usable on a bad day.

Specific backup setup & disaster recovery jobs

Backup Setup & Disaster Recovery for businesses

For an accounting practice, clinic, engineering firm or any business with client records, losing data is more than an inconvenience. A tested backup with an offsite copy turns a failed server or ransomware attack from a crisis into a recovery job. Clients, insurers and auditors increasingly ask how data is protected, and a written runbook gives you a clear answer.

Before we arrive

To make the visit quick, it helps to have these ready:

  • A list of the systems and software the business cannot run without
  • Admin access to servers, NAS units and Microsoft 365
  • Details of any existing backup software or cloud storage account
  • Who should receive backup alerts and keep the recovery plan

What a visit looks like

When you book backup setup & disaster recovery, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each backup setup & disaster recovery job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

Backup Setup & Disaster Recovery: common questions

Isn't Microsoft 365 already backed up?

Microsoft keeps the service running and holds deleted items for a limited period, but it is not a full backup. A separate backup protects against accidental deletion, a compromised account or ransomware that syncs through OneDrive.

Is a USB drive plugged into the server enough?

It is one copy, but it sits in the same room and is often reachable by ransomware. The 3-2-1 rule adds a second type of storage and an offsite or cloud copy that cannot be encrypted from your network.

How do we know the backup actually works?

By restoring from it. We restore real files, and where it matters a whole server or virtual machine, to a separate location and check they open. We also show you where backup alerts go.
