Network health check and documentation

A full check of your network, with clear written documentation.

Many small business networks grew one device at a time, and the only map is in someone's head. A health check looks at the whole picture: the internet connection, firewall, switches, Wi-Fi, cabling, firmware, backups and passwords. We test what is there, find the weak points, and hand you a plain-English report and network documentation that any future technician can pick up and use.

  • A written report of what we found, ranked by urgency
  • A device list with models, locations and IP addresses
  • Admin logins collected into one place for you

Signs you need network health check & documentation

  • The network feels slower than it should and nobody knows why
  • Only one person knows the router and switch passwords
  • You have taken over the business or the building and inherited the IT
  • Devices randomly lose connection or show IP address conflicts
  • Firmware on network equipment has never been updated

How we do it

We go through the network from the internet connection inwards. That covers line speed and stability, the firewall configuration and firmware, every switch and access point, the cabling and patch panels, DHCP and DNS settings, Wi-Fi channels and coverage, and how backups and admin passwords are handled. We test rather than assume - checking port errors, link speeds, Wi-Fi interference and which devices are past vendor support.

Findings are written up in plain English and ranked: what needs attention now, what should be planned, and what is fine as it is. Alongside the report you get a network diagram, a device register with models, locations, IP addresses and firmware versions, and a list of admin logins stored where you choose. Fixes can be done there and then if you agree, or left for you to plan.

Network Health Check & Documentation for businesses

For an office or multi-site business, a health check turns an undocumented network into something you own and understand. It catches failing switches, unsupported firewalls and missing backups before they cause an outage, and the documentation means any technician can work on your network without starting from scratch. It is especially useful when you buy a business, move premises or change IT provider.

Before we arrive

To make the visit quick, it helps to have these ready:

  • Any existing logins, passwords or notes from previous IT help
  • Access to the comms cupboard, server room and ceiling spaces
  • A list of known problems and when they tend to happen
  • Details of your internet provider and connection type

What a visit looks like

When you book network health check & documentation, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each network health check & documentation job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

Network Health Check & Documentation: common questions

What do we get at the end of a health check?

A short report listing each issue, why it matters and what we suggest, ranked from urgent to nice-to-have. You also get a network diagram and a device register to keep, whether or not you book any follow-up work.

Do you need to take the network down to check it?

No. Most of the check is done by inspecting equipment and reading configurations while the office works normally. Firmware updates or changes that need a restart are scheduled with you separately.

Our previous IT person has left. Can you pick up from there?

Yes. We find the equipment, recover or reset admin access where needed, and document what is in place, so you are no longer dependent on one person to know how the network works.
