Cabling & networks

Warehouse and industrial Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi that scanners and forklift terminals can roam on reliably.

Steel racking, full pallets, high ceilings and roller doors all work against Wi-Fi. A warehouse network has to keep handheld scanners and forklift terminals connected as they move down aisles, not just show full bars at the office door. We survey the floor, place access points to suit the racking layout, tune channels and power for roaming, and cable them back on PoE switches.

  • Walk-test of coverage with your own scanners or devices
  • Access point positions marked on a floor plan
  • Channel, power and SSID settings recorded

Signs you need warehouse & industrial Wi-Fi

  • Handheld scanners lose connection in certain aisles
  • Picking slows down while devices reconnect or re-log in
  • Coverage changes when racking is full compared with when it is empty
  • Forklift terminals drop out near roller doors or the loading dock
  • Access points were placed for the office, not for the warehouse floor

How we do it

Warehouse Wi-Fi is planned around the racking, not around the ceiling. We walk the floor with your scanners or a test device, note where signal drops, check the height and orientation of aisles, and look at what is stored - liquids, metal and dense stock all behave differently. Access points are positioned to see down aisles rather than through them, and mounted at a height that suits the racking and any sprinkler or lighting clearances.

Configuration matters as much as placement. We set transmit power so devices hand over to a nearer access point instead of hanging on to a far one, choose channels that do not overlap, and match the roaming and security settings to what your scanners support. Access points are fed from PoE switches with enough power budget for every unit, and we walk-test again with real devices before we leave.

Specific warehouse & industrial Wi-Fi jobs

Warehouse & Industrial Wi-Fi for businesses

In a distribution centre, freight depot or manufacturing site, a dropped scanner is lost picking time and errors in stock counts. Good warehouse Wi-Fi means devices roam cleanly from aisle to aisle, the loading dock and yard are covered where they need to be, and the network is cabled back to switches you can see and manage. It is also documented, so a racking change can be planned around it.

Before we arrive

To make the visit quick, it helps to have these ready:

  • A floor plan or racking layout, even a hand-drawn one
  • One or two of the scanners or terminals your staff use
  • Access to scissor lifts or confirmation of ceiling heights
  • The name of your stock or warehouse system provider

What a visit looks like

When you book warehouse & industrial Wi-Fi, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each warehouse & industrial Wi-Fi job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

Warehouse & Industrial Wi-Fi: common questions

Why do scanners drop off when the office Wi-Fi is fine?

Racking and stock absorb and reflect the signal, and scanners often cling to a distant access point instead of roaming to a closer one. The fix is usually better placement, lower transmit power and roaming settings tuned for the devices.

Do we need special access points for a warehouse?

Not always. Many warehouses work well with standard ceiling access points placed down the aisles. Very high ceilings, outdoor yards and cold stores may need directional antennas or units rated for the temperature and dust.

Can you work around our operating hours?

Yes. Lift work and cabling in active aisles are planned with your operations team, and we can schedule work around picking and dispatch so staff and forklifts are not disrupted.
