Warehouse & Industrial Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers, on site
Scanners lose Wi-Fi as soon as staff walk into the chiller or freezer.
Scanners lose Wi-Fi as soon as staff walk into the chiller or freezer.
Chillers and freezers are built from insulated panels with metal skins, which block Wi-Fi very effectively. An access point outside the door rarely covers more than the first few metres. Condensation and low temperatures also rule out many standard access points, so the room needs equipment chosen for the conditions. Scanners also need to cope with the moment staff walk back out into warmer air.
What the technician does
- Survey signal inside and around the cold store
- Plan access points or antennas rated for the temperature
- Install, cable and test inside the cold area
Insulated panel walls block Wi-Fi almost completely - coverage usually needs to be inside the room.
About Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers
Options include an access point rated for low temperatures mounted inside, or an access point outside with an external antenna fed through the wall. We plan cable penetrations with your refrigeration contractor so the panel seal is maintained, then install, test with your scanners and make sure devices roam cleanly between the cold store and the main floor. Coverage is checked at the back of the room and between racking, where stock is densest.
What usually causes it
- Insulated panel walls blocking signal
- Standard access points not rated for low temperatures
- New cold store or chiller added to the warehouse
- Scanners failing to reconnect after leaving the freezer
Before we arrive
- A floor plan or racking layout, even a hand-drawn one
- One or two of the scanners or terminals your staff use
- Access to scissor lifts or confirmation of ceiling heights
- The name of your stock or warehouse system provider
What a visit looks like
When you book Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers: questions
Can a normal access point go inside a freezer?
Usually not. Most standard access points are not rated for freezing temperatures or condensation. We choose equipment rated for the conditions, or mount it outside with an antenna inside.
Will the cable hole affect the cold store?
Penetrations must be sealed to maintain the panel. We coordinate with your refrigeration contractor so the entry is sealed correctly. Glands or sealed conduit are used so the entry stays airtight and does not frost over.
Do you do Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does Wi-Fi in chillers and freezers cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
