UPS Installation
UPS battery replacement, on site
The UPS beeps, shows a battery warning or no longer holds power.
The UPS beeps, shows a battery warning or no longer holds power.
UPS units use sealed lead-acid batteries that lose capacity with heat and age. We run the UPS self-test, check its battery voltage and logs, and confirm the beeping is about the battery and not an overload or wiring issue. APC, Eaton and CyberPower units each have their own battery packs; we match the exact type, size and terminal style, as a cheap mismatch can fail early or not fit.
What the technician does
- Test the UPS and batteries
- Fit replacement batteries
- Run a load test
UPS batteries are a consumable - they wear out every few years.
About UPS battery replacement
Many UPS models allow a hot-swap with the equipment still powered; others need a short shutdown, which we plan with you. After fitting new batteries we recalibrate runtime so the display is accurate, run a load test to confirm it holds, and update the battery date in the UPS settings. Old batteries are recycled properly, since lead-acid batteries cannot go in general waste.
What usually causes it
- UPS beeping with a battery replace warning
- Runtime dropping to almost nothing
- Battery swelling or casing bulging
- UPS failing its self-test
- Equipment shutting off during brief power flickers
Before we arrive
- A list of the equipment that must stay running
- Access to the server, rack or comms cupboard
- Admin access to the server or NAS for shutdown software
- The make and model of any existing UPS
What a visit looks like
When you book UPS battery replacement, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Each UPS battery replacement job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
UPS battery replacement: questions
Do I need to shut down my server to replace the battery?
Many business UPS units support hot-swap, so equipment stays on. Some smaller models need everything shut down briefly. We check your model and plan accordingly.
What happens to the old batteries?
We take them away for recycling through a proper battery collection point. Lead-acid batteries should never go in normal rubbish or kerbside recycling because they contain lead and acid.
Do you do UPS battery replacement on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does UPS battery replacement cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
