Wi-Fi & Network Setup

Home Wi-Fi assessment, on site

The Wi-Fi is fine in the lounge but drops out in the bedrooms and the office, and I do not want to buy the wrong fix.

The Wi-Fi is fine in the lounge but drops out in the bedrooms and the office, and I do not want to buy the wrong fix.

Before buying an extender or a mesh kit, it is worth knowing why the Wi-Fi is weak. A technician walks through the house with testing tools, measuring signal strength and speed in every room you use, including the garage, the sleepout and the deck if they matter. We note where the router sits, what the walls are made of, and which neighbouring networks share the same channels, because brick, concrete, foil-backed insulation and mirrors all weaken Wi-Fi more than people expect.

What the technician does

  1. Walk the house testing signal and speed in every room
  2. Find dead spots, interference and router placement problems
  3. Recommend fixes, from moving the router to mesh or cabled access points

Have the router login handy and leave the Wi-Fi running as normal during the visit.

About home Wi-Fi assessment

From that walk-through you get a plain recommendation. Sometimes moving the router or changing a channel is enough. Other homes are better served by a mesh system, or by access points connected with network cable for a reliable signal in a home office. We explain the options and why each one would or would not help, so nothing is bought until you know it will fix the problem. If you go ahead, we can install it.

What usually causes it

  • The router sits at one end of the house or inside a cupboard
  • Brick, concrete or foil-backed insulation blocking the signal
  • Neighbouring networks crowding the same channels
  • An older router that no longer suits the size of the house

Before we arrive

  • A floor plan or rough sketch of the building, if you have one
  • Your internet provider's account details
  • Router and switch admin logins if you know them
  • A list of the rooms or areas where Wi-Fi is worst

What a visit looks like

When you book home Wi-Fi assessment, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Home Wi-Fi assessment: questions

Is a mesh system always the answer?

No. Mesh works well in many homes, but in houses with thick walls or a detached office, cabled access points are often more reliable. The assessment shows which suits your house.

Will you test the internet speed as well?

Yes. We test the connection at the router and around the house, so you can see whether the slowdown is the Wi-Fi or the internet connection itself.

Do you do home Wi-Fi assessment on site?

Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.

How much does home Wi-Fi assessment cost?

It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
