Practice data backup check, on site
We think the practice data is being backed up, but nobody has ever checked whether it would restore.
We think the practice data is being backed up, but nobody has ever checked whether it would restore.
Clinic backups are often set up once and then forgotten. The practice-management database might back up to a drive that filled up months ago, or to a cloud service whose subscription quietly lapsed. Scanned documents, images and email can sit outside the backup altogether. We find where each kind of data lives and trace whether, and where, it is being copied.
What the technician does
- Find where practice data and backups are stored
- Check backup logs and test-restore a sample
- Report what is protected and fix any gaps
A backup only counts if someone has restored from it at least once.
About practice data backup check
We then check backup logs for recent successful runs and restore a sample to a safe location to prove it works. Where the vendor manages the database backup, we confirm the arrangement with them. You receive a plain summary of what is protected, what is not and what we fixed, such as adding an offsite copy or setting up failure alerts.
What usually causes it
- The person who set up the backup has left
- Backup failure emails go to an unread mailbox
- The clinic moved to new hardware and backups were not reconfigured
- A privacy or insurance question asked how data is protected
Before we arrive
- Your clinic session times and quieter periods
- The support contact for your practice-management software
- Admin logins for the router, Wi-Fi and any server
- A list of rooms and the devices used in each
What a visit looks like
When you book practice data backup check, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Each practice data backup check job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
Practice data backup check: questions
Do you need to stop the practice software to test a backup?
No. Test restores go to a separate location, so the live system keeps running. Any changes to the backup setup are scheduled outside clinic hours.
How many copies of the data should we have?
At least two copies in two places, one of them offsite or in the cloud, so a single failed drive, theft or ransomware does not take everything.
Do you do practice data backup check on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does practice data backup check cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
