New Build & Fit-out Cabling

Cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points, on site

We want neat ceiling access points instead of a router on a shelf, but there is no cable in the ceiling.

We want neat ceiling access points instead of a router on a shelf, but there is no cable in the ceiling.

Ceiling access points give far more even coverage than a router in a corner, and each one only needs a single network cable carrying both data and power over PoE. The hard part is getting that cable into the right spot. During a fit-out or new build it is straightforward; in an existing building it depends on ceiling access. Surface ducting is the fallback.

What the technician does

  1. Plan access point positions for coverage on each floor
  2. Run Cat6 or Cat6A from each position to the switch
  3. Mount bases, terminate and test each run for PoE

Mark access point positions away from light fittings, sprinkler heads and air vents.

About cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points

We plan positions based on wall materials, room layout and how many devices each area needs to support, then run cable from each position back to a PoE switch. Cat6A is worth considering for newer Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 access points. We mount the bases, terminate and test each run, and confirm the switch has enough PoE budget for every access point.

What usually causes it

  • Router-only Wi-Fi does not reach the whole building
  • New fit-out with ceilings open
  • Mesh units relying on wireless backhaul are slow
  • Plans to add more access points or upgrade to Wi-Fi 7

What a visit looks like

When you book cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points: questions

How many access points do we need?

It depends on walls, floors and the number of devices. A small office may need two or three; a larger building more. We plan positions on the floor plan before running any cable.

What is a PoE budget?

It is the total power a switch can supply across its ports. Each access point draws a set amount, so the switch must have enough to power all of them at once.

Do you do cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points on site?

Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.

How much does cabling for ceiling Wi-Fi access points cost?

It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
