New Build & Fit-out Cabling
Network pre-wire during a renovation, on site
We are renovating and want network cables in the walls before the plasterboard goes on.
We are renovating and want network cables in the walls before the plasterboard goes on.
A renovation is often the only chance to get cables into walls without cutting holes later. When linings come off for new insulation, a kitchen or a bathroom, a Cat6 run to the lounge TV, a home office or a ceiling access point takes very little extra work. Once the wall is closed, the same cable needs fishing through framing or surface ducting.
What the technician does
- Agree outlet, access point and cabinet positions on the plan
- Run Cat6 from each position to the cabinet while walls are open
- Return after linings to terminate, test and label
Photograph each wall before it is lined - the photos show exactly where every cable runs.
About network pre-wire during a renovation
We plan positions with you on the drawings, then run cables back to a small cabinet or a central point near where the fibre enters the building. Cables are tagged and left coiled safely while the other trades work. After plastering and painting we fit faceplates, terminate the patch panel, test every run and give you a simple record of what goes where.
What usually causes it
- Wi-Fi does not reach the far end of the house or office
- Walls or ceilings are being opened for other work
- A home office or new room is being added
- Plans for ceiling access points or cameras
Before we arrive
- Floor plans and the electrical plan, if one exists
- Builder's programme or the expected pre-line inspection date
- Contact details for the builder, electrician and project manager
- A list of rooms where screens, desks, cameras or access points will go
What a visit looks like
When you book network pre-wire during a renovation, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Each network pre-wire during a renovation job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
Network pre-wire during a renovation: questions
How many points should we put in?
Think about where screens, desks, consoles and access points will sit, then add a spare point or two where layouts may change. Unused cable in a wall costs little; adding it later costs much more.
Do you work with our builder?
Yes. We fit around the builder's programme, coordinate with the electrician and are in and out quickly at the pre-wire stage so the linings are not held up.
Do you do network pre-wire during a renovation on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does network pre-wire during a renovation cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
