Data Recovery

Recover deleted files, on site

I deleted a folder by mistake and it isn't in the recycle bin.

I deleted a folder by mistake and it isn't in the recycle bin.

When a file is deleted, the space it used is marked as free, but the data often stays on the drive until something new is written over it. That is why acting quickly and using the computer as little as possible matters. We check the drive type first, because solid-state drives often clear deleted space automatically, which makes recovery much less likely than on older hard drives. We check drive health before scanning.

What the technician does

  1. Stop further writes to the drive
  2. Scan the drive and copy recoverable files to new storage
  3. Check the recovered folders with you

Don't install recovery software onto the same drive - it can overwrite what you're trying to save.

About recover deleted files

We scan the drive without writing to it and copy any recoverable files onto separate storage. File names and folder structure do not always survive, so we go through the results with you to find the documents and photos that matter. We also check for easier routes first, such as cloud sync history, OneDrive version history or a backup. Afterwards we suggest a backup so a slip is easy to undo.

What usually causes it

  • A folder was deleted while tidying up
  • The recycle bin was emptied
  • A sync app deleted files from every device
  • A drive was formatted by mistake

  • A new drive to receive the recovered data, if you have one
  • When the files were last seen and what happened since

What a visit looks like

When you book recover deleted files, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Recover deleted files: questions

Is recovery possible from an SSD?

Less often than from a hard drive. Many SSDs clear deleted space automatically soon after files are removed. We check quickly and tell you honestly whether recovery is realistic.

Should I keep using the computer until you arrive?

Use it as little as possible, and do not install or download anything. Every new file written can overwrite the data you want back. Switching off is safest.

Do you do recover deleted files on site?

Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.

How much does recover deleted files cost?

It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
