Internet Setup & Provider Changeover
Fixed wireless internet setup, on site
Fibre is not available here, and we have a fixed wireless or 4G modem that drops out and only works in one corner.

Fibre is not available here, and we have a fixed wireless or 4G modem that drops out and only works in one corner.
Fixed wireless and 4G or 5G home broadband rely on a radio signal from a nearby tower, so where the modem sits makes a big difference. Placed beside a metal-framed window or deep inside the building, it may connect but struggle to hold a steady signal. We test signal strength in several spots, usually upstairs or on the side of the building facing the tower, and find the place that gives the most stable connection rather than the highest single reading.
What the technician does
- Find the spot in the building with the strongest signal to the tower
- Position the modem and connect it to a router or access points
- Spread the Wi-Fi through the building and test every room
Let us know which provider and modem you have, as some allow an outdoor antenna and some do not.
About fixed wireless internet setup
Because the right spot for signal is rarely the right spot for Wi-Fi, we often run a network cable from the modem to a central router or mesh system, or to access points in an office. Wi-Fi is then named, secured and spread to the rooms that need it. Where the provider supports an external antenna, we discuss whether one would help before you buy it. Each computer, printer and TV is reconnected and tested.
What usually causes it
- Fibre has not reached the street or the building yet
- A rural or semi-rural property outside the fibre area
- The modem sits where the signal is weak
- Wi-Fi from the modem does not reach the far side of the building
Before we arrive
- Your new provider's account details and the connection date they gave you
- The login for the old router, if you have it
- A list of the devices that need to be online, including printers, TVs and recorders
- Anything that must be reachable from outside, such as cameras or a remote desktop
What a visit looks like
When you book fixed wireless internet setup, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Fixed wireless internet setup: questions
Would Starlink be better than fixed wireless?
It depends on the site. Fixed wireless can work well close to a tower with a clear line to it, while Starlink suits places with a good view of open sky. We can look at both before you commit.
Can you mount an antenna on the roof?
Where your provider allows an external antenna, we can discuss placement and cable entry. Any work that needs a new power point is done by a registered electrician.
Do you do fixed wireless internet setup on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does fixed wireless internet setup cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
