Internet Setup & Provider Changeover
Switching internet provider without a gap, on site
We are changing internet provider and cannot afford to be offline while it happens.

We are changing internet provider and cannot afford to be offline while it happens.
Changing provider is where offices most often lose a day. The new connection arrives, the old router is unplugged, and then the EFTPOS terminal, the printer or the camera recorder will not connect because a fixed address or port forward was never copied across. We avoid that by logging in to the old router first and recording its Wi-Fi details, address ranges, reservations, port forwards and anything special the old provider configured.
What the technician does
- Record every setting on the old router and agree a cutover plan
- Set up the new router alongside the old connection
- Move devices across, test them and only then let the old service end
Ask your new provider to connect before your old contract ends, so there is overlap.
About switching internet provider without a gap
Where the providers allow it, the new connection is brought up beside the old one, so both are live for a period. The new router is set up with the recorded settings, then devices are moved over in a planned order at a quiet time - often the least busy part of the trading day. Each one is tested on the new connection, and only when everything works is the old service cancelled and the old router returned.
What usually causes it
- A better plan or price from another provider
- Moving from wireless broadband to fibre or the other way around
- Ongoing reliability problems with the current provider
- Consolidating separate home and business connections
Before we arrive
- Your new provider's account details and the connection date they gave you
- The login for the old router, if you have it
- A list of the devices that need to be online, including printers, TVs and recorders
- Anything that must be reachable from outside, such as cameras or a remote desktop
What a visit looks like
When you book switching internet provider without a gap, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Switching internet provider without a gap: questions
Can we keep our fixed IP address?
Fixed IP addresses belong to the provider, so a new provider issues a new one. We update anything that relied on the old address, such as remote access, camera viewing or supplier allow lists, as part of the changeover.
What about our VoIP calling system?
VoIP handsets usually only need a working internet connection, but some rely on settings in the old router. We check how your voice system connects and test calls after the cutover so nothing is missed.
Do you do switching internet provider without a gap on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does switching internet provider without a gap cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
