Computer Health Check & Tune-up
Slow computer tune-up, on site
My computer takes ages to start and programs hang, but nothing is actually broken.

My computer takes ages to start and programs hang, but nothing is actually broken.
A slow computer is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The cause might be a dozen programs all starting at once, two security products fighting each other, a drive close to full, a hard drive starting to fail, or a fan clogged with dust so the processor slows itself down to stay cool. Tuning without checking first can hide a real fault, so we test the hardware before we start clearing anything.
What the technician does
- Test the drive, memory and temperatures for hidden faults
- Clear startup clutter, duplicate security programs and junk
- Bring updates current and confirm the speed improvement with you
Tell us which programs feel slowest - it helps us see whether the cause is general or specific.
About slow computer tune-up
With the hardware confirmed, we switch off startup items that do not need to run, remove the duplicate security product and expired trials you agree to, clear temporary files and finish any stuck updates. If the drive is an older spinning disk, we explain whether replacing it with an SSD would make a bigger difference than any tune-up. You see the result before we leave, and get a list of what was changed.
What usually causes it
- Too many programs set to start with the computer
- Two security products running at the same time
- A failing or nearly full hard drive
- Dust causing the processor to slow down to stay cool
Before we arrive
- The computer's password, and administrator details if they are different
- Details of how you back up, such as an external drive or cloud service
- A note of anything that has felt slow, noisy or unreliable
- Any security software subscriptions you know you are paying for
What a visit looks like
When you book slow computer tune-up, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Slow computer tune-up: questions
Will a tune-up make my computer like new?
It often makes a clear difference, but it cannot change the hardware itself. If the computer is slow because the drive is old or the memory is too small, we explain what an upgrade would achieve so you can decide whether it is worth it.
Do I need to buy a cleaning program afterwards?
No. Many so-called cleaner and speed-up programs cause more trouble than they solve, and we often remove them. Windows and macOS have what they need built in, and we show you the few simple habits that keep things running well.
Do you do slow computer tune-up on site?
Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.
How much does slow computer tune-up cost?
It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
