Kitchen printer setup, on site

Orders aren't printing in the kitchen and the chefs are working from shouted tickets.

Orders aren't printing in the kitchen and the chefs are working from shouted tickets.

Kitchen printers live in a hard environment: heat, grease, steam and staff moving fast. Wi-Fi rarely reaches reliably through stainless steel benches and walk-in chillers, so a cable is the dependable option. We plan where the printer sits so it is easy for the pass to read but out of reach of the hottest and wettest spots. Cables are kept off the floor and away from water.

What the technician does

  1. Run a network cable to the kitchen printer position
  2. Set a fixed address and route orders from the POS
  3. Test orders from each till and ordering device

Mount the printer away from the fryer and dishwasher - heat and steam shorten its life.

About kitchen printer setup

Once the printer is cabled and given a fixed address, we set the POS software to send the right items to the right printer - hot food to one, drinks or desserts to another if needed. We then put through test orders from every till and ordering device and check each ticket prints in full, in the right place. Spare paper is kept nearby.

What usually causes it

  • The kitchen printer is on Wi-Fi and drops out
  • A kitchen refit moved the printer away from its network point
  • A second kitchen printer is needed for a bar or dessert station
  • The POS software was updated and printer routing was lost

What a visit looks like

When you book kitchen printer setup, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each kitchen printer setup job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

Kitchen printer setup: questions

Can you run a cable through a commercial kitchen?

Usually, yes, through ceilings or along existing cable trays, sealed where it passes through walls. We check the route with you first so it stays clear of hot and wet areas.

Can orders go to a kitchen screen instead?

Yes, if your POS software supports kitchen display screens. We can mount and network the screen; your POS provider enables the feature in their software.

Do you do kitchen printer setup on site?

Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.

How much does kitchen printer setup cost?

It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
