After-hours comms cabinet re-patch, on site

Our comms cabinet is a tangle of cables and nobody dares touch it while people are working.

Our comms cabinet is a tangle of cables and nobody dares touch it while people are working.

A messy cabinet is more than an eyesore. Long leads hide which port goes where, block airflow to switches and make fault-finding slow. Before the night we trace and label each connection and write up a port map, so we know exactly which desks, phones, access points and printers will be affected when leads are unplugged. Unlabelled cables are toned out one by one.

What the technician does

  1. Label and record every live connection before unplugging
  2. Re-patch with correct-length leads in an after-hours window
  3. Test each desk, phone and printer port before the morning

A photo of the cabinet before and after helps if a port needs tracing later.

About after-hours comms cabinet re-patch

During the after-hours window we remove the old leads, fit cable management and re-patch with short leads of the right length, colour-coded where that helps. Each port is then checked against the map: workstations get a network address, phones register and printers respond. The finished port map is left in the cabinet and sent to your contact. Spare ports are labelled as spare.

What usually causes it

  • Years of changes have left leads crossing and hanging out of the cabinet
  • Nobody knows which switch port serves which desk
  • Switches are overheating because airflow is blocked
  • New network gear needs installing in a full cabinet

What a visit looks like

When you book after-hours comms cabinet re-patch, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

After-hours comms cabinet re-patch: questions

Will our phones and internet stop during the work?

Yes, briefly, which is why it is done outside trading hours. Each device is reconnected and tested before we leave, so the office starts the next day with everything working.

Do you replace the switches at the same time?

Only if they need it. A re-patch is a good time to replace an ageing switch, but we tell you what we find and you decide.

Do you do after-hours comms cabinet re-patch on site?

Yes. We come to businesses and homes across Auckland and Hamilton and do the work where the equipment is.

How much does after-hours comms cabinet re-patch cost?

It depends on what's involved. Tell us about the job on the form and we'll confirm the price before any work starts.
