IT for builders and trade businesses

Onsite IT for builders, plumbers, electricians and other trades: yard and site offices, reliable internet, job-photo storage and backups.

Builders and trade businesses run from a mix of places: a small office or home base, a yard or workshop, and temporary site sheds. The IT has to keep quoting, scheduling, invoicing and job photos working across all of them, often with little technical support and a team that is rarely at a desk. Problems usually appear as a slow connection at the yard, a single computer holding every quote, or a shed office that loses internet whenever the weather turns. We visit your base or your site, fix the weak points and set it up so it keeps running without constant attention.

IT problems builders and trade businesses run into

  • All quotes, invoices and job records live on one office computer with no reliable backup.
  • Yard offices and workshops are too far from the router, so internet is patchy or missing.
  • Site sheds need temporary internet and Wi-Fi that can be set up quickly and moved later.
  • Job photos, plans and compliance paperwork are scattered across phones, USB sticks and email.
  • Staff share logins and passwords, so nobody knows who changed or deleted a file.

What a good setup looks like

A tidy trade business setup starts at the base. That means a proper router or firewall, Wi-Fi that covers the office and the workshop or yard, and a network cable run to the places that need it, such as the office desk, the printer and any camera. Where buildings are separate, we link them with outdoor-rated cable or fibre rather than relying on weak Wi-Fi. Sheds and temporary sites can be fitted with a portable internet kit, using Starlink or a mobile connection where fixed broadband is not available.

Next we organise the information. Quotes, drawings, photos and compliance paperwork go into one shared, backed-up location that office staff and site leads can both reach. Each person gets their own login and the right level of access, instead of one shared password on a sticky note. Laptops and desktops are kept updated, protected and backed up to a second location, so a stolen laptop or a flat battery does not take a job's paperwork with it.

Finally we look at security and day-to-day running. Cameras at the yard or workshop can be installed and viewed remotely, and alarms for connection failures can be set so you know before a customer does. Printers and scanners are configured for job sheets and signed forms. We hand over a simple written guide covering logins, device locations and how to reach us, so the business is not dependent on one person's memory.

  • Install Starlink at a remote site shed with a protected router.
  • Set up cloud storage so job photos and plans reach the office automatically.

  • Add a backup internet connection so quoting keeps going if the main line fails.

A quick IT checklist

Run through these yourself. Anything you can't tick is a good place to start:

  • If the office computer failed today, could you still reach quotes and invoices?
  • Does the workshop or yard have a reliable signal, or only a guess?
  • Does each team member use their own login rather than a shared one?
  • Are job photos and paperwork kept in one place instead of on personal devices?
  • Do you have a backup internet option for the days the main line drops?
  • Are yard cameras recording, and do you know how to retrieve footage?

What a visit looks like

When you book a business job, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.

On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.

When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.

Pricing

Each business job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.

There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.

IT for builders and trade businesses: questions

Can you set up internet at a building site or shed?

Yes. Where fixed broadband is not available, we can install a Starlink kit or a mobile broadband router, with Wi-Fi inside the shed. We aim for a setup that can be moved to the next site without starting over.

Can you cable our workshop and office together?

Yes. For separate buildings, we run outdoor-rated data cable or fibre between them, depending on distance and conditions, and install a switch at each end. This is far more dependable than stretching Wi-Fi across a yard.

Do you do electrical work for the power side of things?

No. We handle data, network and device work only. Anything involving 230 V wiring, such as new power points or switchboard changes, has to be done by a registered electrician, and we can work alongside theirs.

We only have a few staff. Is this really worth setting up properly?

Small teams often benefit most, because one failure can stop the whole business. A modest setup with individual logins, a tested backup and reliable internet is simple to maintain and protects quotes, invoices and job records.
