IT for early childhood centres
Onsite IT for early childhood centres: reliable Wi-Fi, office computers, entry cameras and practical, privacy-aware setups.

An early childhood centre has two very different technology needs. The office handles enrolments, rosters, payments and records about children and families, while the rooms use tablets, a few computers, music and displays that must be safe and simple. Staff are busy with children, not computers, so a printer fault or a Wi-Fi blackspot cannot wait for someone with spare time. The personal information held about families calls for care, and the Privacy Act 2020 applies in general terms. We come onsite, keep things practical, and set up systems that staff can run without technical knowledge.

IT problems early childhood centres run into
- Wi-Fi covers the office but not every playroom, outdoor area or staff room.
- Enrolment and family records sit on a single office computer with no dependable backup.
- Shared logins mean nobody knows who has accessed which records.
- Cameras and door entry systems are fitted without clear thought for privacy and where footage is stored.
- Staff have little time or technical background, so faults are left until they become urgent.

What a good setup looks like
A practical centre setup separates the office from everything else. The office network holds enrolment records, payroll and email, behind a business firewall and with its own Wi-Fi. A second network serves rooms, learning devices and visitors, and cannot reach the office. Access points are placed so each room and the outdoor area have signal, and cabling to the office desk and printer is neat and labelled. If the building is older, we plan around thick walls and awkward ceilings.
Records and devices are handled with care. Each staff member gets their own login with access only to what they need, and office computers are encrypted and backed up to a second location. Printing and scanning for enrolment forms and incident paperwork is set up simply. Devices used by children are kept apart from staff data, and we do not set up or repair tablets or phones, but we can configure the network they connect to.
Where a centre wants cameras or door entry, we install them thoughtfully. Placement avoids areas such as toilets and changing spaces, recording is kept in a secure location with limited access, and signage and policy are for you to decide with your own advisers. We make no promises about regulatory outcomes. We provide a short written handover, so the manager knows where footage and backups are stored and who can reach them.

Run through these yourself. Anything you can't tick is a good place to start:
- Does each staff member have their own login for records and email?
- Are enrolment and family records backed up to a second place?
- Is the network used by children's devices separate from the office?
- Who can view camera footage, and where is it stored?
- Do all rooms and outdoor areas have reliable Wi-Fi?
- Is the office computer set to lock when nobody is at the desk?
What a visit looks like
When you book a business job, you tell us what's going on and we reply with a time that suits you and a price. Nothing starts until you're happy with both.
On the day, the technician arrives, looks at the problem in person and confirms the plan with you before starting. If something turns out different from what was expected - a part is needed, or the cause is somewhere else - we stop and agree the change with you first.
When the work is done we test it with you, show you what was changed, and leave the area tidy. For business jobs we note what we did, so there is a record for whoever looks after your IT next.
Pricing
Each business job is priced before work starts. The price depends on what's involved - the size of the site, the equipment, and whether parts are needed - so the quickest way to a number is to tell us about the job on the booking form.
There is no contract and no monthly fee. You book the job you need and pay for that job.
IT for early childhood centres: questions
Can you install cameras at our centre?
Yes, for entries, car parks and perimeters, with careful placement and limited access to footage. How cameras are used, and any notices or policies around them, is a decision for your centre and its advisers.
Do you work while children are present?
We can work around your routine. Noisy or disruptive tasks are better booked for when the centre is closed, and when we are onsite during operating hours we keep to areas agreed with your manager.
Can you set up or repair our tablets?
No, we do not set up or repair tablets or phones. We can make sure the Wi-Fi they connect to is reliable, safe and separate from the office, and we can set up the office computers and printers.
How do you handle information about children and families?
We set up the systems that hold it, with individual logins, encryption and backups, but we do not need to read it. Your centre remains responsible for its Privacy Act 2020 obligations, and we help make the technical side sensible.
